The TL-R1620Sep-RP 12Gbps SAS storage expansion enclosure is designed to increase the storage capacity of your QTS or QuTS hero NAS. You can daisy-chain up to sixteen expansion enclosures using high-speed mini SAS HD cables to support a raw capacity of up to 4.6 PB. This is ideal for archiving/backing up virtualization applications, surveillance recordings, large data files, or multimedia content. Featuring Broadcom© SAS DataBolt™ bandwidth optimization technology, the TL-R1620Sep-RP consolidates 6Gbps infrastructure into 12Gbps. When connected to a QTS/QuTS hero NAS that supports multipath routing, the TL-R1620Sep-RP can achieve smooth data transmission and continuous system operations.

The TL-R1620Sep-RP is powered by a 28nm SAS35x36R SAS expander and supports 12/6 Gbps SAS/SATA drives. It also features four wide SFF-8644 (x4 lane) SAS 3.0 12 Gbps ports. By connecting the TL-R1620Sep-RP to the host NAS and daisy-chaining multiple JBODs with two of the wide ports configured for link aggregation, the solution delivers transfer speeds of up to 96 Gbps.

Featuring Broadcom© SAS DataBolt™ bandwidth optimization technology, the TL-R1620Sep-RP includes intelligent buffering to transfer data to drives at speeds that match the performance of the host NAS. Regardless of whether the TL-R1620Sep-RP uses 12 or 6 Gbps drives, the host NAS will transfer data to the TL-R1620Sep-RP at 12 Gbps, allowing you to take advantage of high-speed 12 Gbps SAS transmission with your existing 6 Gbps infrastructure.

Multi-path routing to ensure continuous system operations
By daisy-chaining the TL-R1620Sep-RP, data transmission loads can be balanced using multipath routing to achieve high availability. If one path fails, an alternative transmission path can be used to access the data and ensure continuous system operation. The TL-R1620Sep-RP also features a redundant power supply to ensure system uptime.
Flexible serial connection modes
By daisy-chaining your NAS to multiple SAS TL JBODs and SAS REXP JBODs, you can take advantage of multipath routing and link aggregation to enjoy higher transfer speeds and system availability.
Storage management
Using the Storage and Snapshots Manager on the host NAS, you can configure and manage the settings of the TL-R1620Sep-RP (including RAID groups, storage pools, and snapshots), allowing you to easily expand the NAS storage to accommodate large data or backup files. You can also configure and manage the TL-R1620Sep-RP via the Console Port.
Accelerate remote file transfers with JBOD migration
Moving many small files or a single large data file across a network can be time-consuming and negatively impact network performance. By setting up RAID on the TL-R1620Sep-RP, you can use it to move files to another computer or NAS. Simply save the files to the TL-R1620Sep-RP, connect it to the destination device, and then copy the files to it.
